Optimization Overkill and Your Website

In the world of Search Engine Optimization, content is king, but matching content is the jester. As defined by Google, duplicate content is text that is the same as the text on a different page on the same site, a sister site, or a site heavily-linked to the site in question since it can be presumed the two sites are related. By copying and pasting text from one page on the website, expect to see the site's rank drop. Checking the site for duplicate content from time to time is a favorable habit to get into. This will not only show any information duplicated by the site master, but will also show if another site's owner may be illegally copying content, dropping the site's rank.

To check a site for matching content, use the Similar Page Checker tool. It will bring out duplicate information found on the site.
